12 for 12 Campaign

2014 - 2016

Aggie Bonfire was a long-standing tradition at Texas A&M University as part of the college rivalry with the University of Texas at Austin. For 90 years, Texas A&M students built and burned a bonfire on campus, each year growing to an immense size.  On November 18, 1999 at 2:42 am, Bonfire collapsed during construction, killing twelve people - eleven students and one former student - and injuring twenty-seven others.

In 2014, BUILD embarked on a three-year project to construct and dedicate 12 Texas Aggie Medical Clinics (TAMCs) in honor of the 12 fallen Aggies at Bonfire. BUILD 2014 was the first year that BUILD was at The Grove, next to Simpson Drill Field by the MSC.  Then the following years BUILD was relocated to Lot 88, next to the General Services Complex off Agronomy Rd.

BUILD 2015 and 2016 continued to transform the remaining eight shipping containers into Texas Aggie Medical Clinics. In addition, in April 2016 BUILD members began building a fully functional prototype clinic to keep on campus and display as a finished example of a TAMC. The prototype was completed on Kyle Field Day by volunteers and then dedicated to the 27 Aggies injured in the Bonfire collapse. In 2017, this prototype was temporarily relocated to Rockport to serve as a facility for Rockport EMS after the destruction of Hurricane Harvey.  The 2016 prototype was retired in January 2018 and is now prepared to serve in one of the tentative 2017 destinations.
